Located at the "top" of the Caribbean chain, Puerto Rico is the closest of the tropical islands to US departure cities. Puerto Ricans have US citizenship use the US dollar.

Geographical features include rugged mountains, as well as hundreds of miles of perfect tropical beaches. There are many nature preserves, including the Caribbean National Forest, which is the only tropical rain forest in the US Forest Service.
